What is Wind Power?
Wind generators have been used in the United States since the late 1800's for irrigation and since the early 1900's for electricity. Wind energy is captured by wind turbines, which range in size from small systems that supply power to a single irrigation pump or residential household to large turbines that each supply electricity to hundreds of homes. Large wind turbines are often grouped together in "wind farms" in areas with good wind resources. Wind energy is already cost competitive with many conventional energy technologies.
